Formed in 2011, Fusion 5 (formally known as The KL Jazz Project and founded by the founders of the KL International Jazz & Arts Festival) plays a varied fusion of Jazz Rock, Blues, Classic Rock and Experimental Music.
The band’s creative and innovative core has seen it collaborate with many international artists based regionally. Some of them include Yagi (Japan) on saxophone, Steve Thornton (USA) on Percussion, Patrick Terbrack (USA) on saxophone, Chris Ong (Singapore) on guitars, Jordan Rivers (Malaysia) on guitar and vocals, Dodong Jumawan (Philippines) on piano/keyboards/synthesizers and many others.
Known for their high energy driven jazz rock elements in their own compositions, their music also embodies a progressive take on complex songs and tributes to the music of jazz and blues greats such as Charles Mingus, Ahmad Jamal, The Crusaders, Billy Cobham, Tommy Bolin, Jim Hall, Frank Foster, Otis Rush, BB King, Jimi Hendrix. Peter Green etc.
Their performances are raw, transcendent, highly energized and incorporates elements of blues and rock leaning towards improvised experimental jazz music to create a subtle audio signature that is unique to them.
